"Powerless" by Lauren Roberts is a popular young adult fantasy romance ("romantasy") novel set in the ruthless kingdom of Ilya. The story follows a society divided by a magical plague that left survivors either gifted with supernatural abilities (the Elites) or entirely powerless (the Ordinaries). Because the king has criminalized and banished all Ordinaries, the main character, Paedyn Gray, must pose as an Elite psychic and resort to thievery in the slums just to survive.
